In the Washington, D.C. area, the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism has been collecting and analyzing more than four dozen sources of news reports since 2007; they regularly employ a large team of coders to create a variety of indices that are tracked over time. Professor Alan Neustadtl’s group has been working with organizations such as Nation of Neighbors to explore how social media can be used for collective goods. Professor Meredith Kleykamp’s research on stereotypes of veterans may link to work at the Veterans Association and Department of Defense.

The Lab also plans to sponsor service learning projects in which undergraduates work with community groups who attempt to challenge oppressive cultural stereotypes or negative social definitions of groups.
